Meinl makes a great well-made product, however because of that it weighs too much for a beginner trying to learn complicated Brazilian grooves. The Contemporanea is much better. That being said, if you can afford to buy both, a Meinl is a great way to build strength and to exercise your hold. Unfortunately, the jingles in both choices are not the greatest. Ask anyone... this review could be copied and pasted to almost all Meinl Brazilian instruments. 'Meinl's are well made, but the Contemporanea product weighs a lot less and usually sounds better.'
