Purchased this to use as an imitation of the Brazilian xocalho, and it worked very well. It cuts well and is very easy to control. The guiro-like grooves give a really nice option for a different color. I used this in an orchestral setting and it was great. For a smaller, chamber group, though, it might actually be too loud. If the guiro grooves are used, it might be a little softer, or you could consider using a stick with non-brass jingles instead.
