The Path Before Me by Walter Mertens is inspired by the first sentences of Walt Whitman's poem Song of the Open Road. where he describes the many choices you can make in your live, the different ways you can take, but at the end you come at the final place you should be. The Path Before Me by Walter Mertens is an unaccompanied vibraphone work adapted from a larger concertino for solo vibraphone & either orchestra or wind ensemble, titled "Song of the Open Road."
