Description
Mixtures by David J. Long for percussion quintet. This piece uses three main categories of sound sources: metal, membrane, and wood. After each is heard separately, the sources are mixed in a partially aleatoric section which is followed by an imitative section that includes all three sources. Mixtures is dedicated to William P. Latham.
Instrumentation:
Player 1 - vibraphone, bongos, conga, marimba
Player 2 - 4 graded suspended cymbals, 4 roto-toms, chimes, marimba, maracas, tam-tam
Player 3 - small suspended cymbal, 5 graded cans, temple blocks, snare drum, vibraphone, xylophone
Player 4 - chocallo, triangle, 5 graded tom-toms, maraca, slapstick
Player 5 - tam-tam, 5 graded brake drums, 4 timpani, 2 woodblocks, castanets
