I was J. Burns, Moor's last new student. I was only able to study with him for 1 year, but what he taught was invaluable. This "biblical" rudimental text clearly demonstrates the most efficient way to learn and to practice the foundations of all percussion. Along with a qualified teacher, this method book is the foundation on which carriers can be built. Basically J. Burns Moore demonstrates all of the physical actions of what the rudiments become in the hands of an accomplished player, but in a way that simplifies the motion for the beginner. Simply keeping the relative motions intact as speed becomes possible insures the rudiments stay accurate, balanced, and in control, at whatever tempo is chosen. In addition, the reading exercises and "ancient" drum beats are fun and challenging.
