DAY AND NIGHT is a composition for solo timpani and Latin percussion accompaniment This piece is dedicated to Don Liuzzi, principal timpanist for the Philadelphia Orchestra.

This piece is constructed in two contrasting movements, Night and Day. Day features lyrical lines that represent the calm of the day contrasted by playful moments that show another side of the daytime. Night contrasts Day in the final movement to bring the piece to a end. Night features a segment where both players play on the timpani with their hands

Rolando Morales-Matos (percussionist) received his BFA in music from Carnegie Mellon University, his MA from Duquesne University, and Certificate of Professional Studies at Temple University. He is a Percussionist and Assistant Conductor with Disney's production of The Lion King, NYC. He is the recipient of the 2006 Drum Magazine World Beat Percussionist of the Year award. He is a professor at both Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, NY
