For anyone looking to purchase an original Musser M408 mallet this rendition is a complete disappointment. I do not know who is manufacturing current Musser mallets, but they are nothing like the originals, many of which I really liked and still use. The original M408 mallet with birch handles was/is one of the most useful all around mallets for playing on both my marimba and vibraphone. The current M408 is: Extremely Soft at the core making it difficult to produce any sound at all. The Head is larger and less responsive. The Handles are longer, thicker, and less finished. For me a big disappointment.
