Description
Per Norgard is one of the most influential contemporary Danish composers and this piece features elements of improvisation as well as the driven tones and abruptly changing textures which characterise the majority of his work since 1980.
"The title "Poeme" might look strange for a solo percussion piece, but exactly the sensitivity and the understated intensity was always in my mind when composing this piece for one of the most artistic performers of the percussion instruments.
The wooden sounds of the marimba tremolo calls for association to the circus, not so much the vitalistic and funny side of a circus performance, as the noble clown with a tear in his eye.
"Poeme" was composed in 1987 and is dedicated to Einar Nielsen, who premiered the sound poem the same year."
