Ouzounoff-Les Rayons Et Les Ombres (SP)-V/HP/PN

Les Rayons et les Ombres / Rays and Shadows refers to the title of the same name in a poem by Victor Hugo. The title caught my attention, even though the music makes no reference to the poem's lengthy content. The three instruments are particularly resonant, offering the prospect of sound shimmering and moving through the space. It was this sound material that I was thinking about most, and on which I built the whole piece.

The work is dominated by very stable color planes and aerial textures, like the vibraphone with the bow, or the harp with the rapidly repeated sounds. The piece was premiered in October 2023 during the “Nuits de la Création” in Versailles (France).
