Papek-Endless Imitation-M

Endless Imitation by Zane Papek is a medium-advanced solo for 5-octave marimba that blends personal narrative with expressive four-mallet writing. Inspired by the composer’s seven-year journey of self-acceptance, the piece moves through evolving emotional states—sometimes simmering, sometimes volatile, and always deeply human.

The solo’s pacing is intentionally fluid. Tempo markings are suggestions rather than rules, encouraging a free, interpretive approach throughout. The piece rewards players who lean into its expressive freedom, taking ownership of the color, pacing, and emotional shape of each section.
