Description
Like Pereira's cello suite, "Three Movements for Violin and Vibraphone", takes its influence once again from Bach. This time, from the Violin Sonatas and Partitas, and more specifically, from the "implied harmonies" that lie within them. In these pieces Bach integrates a bass line and all the harmonies needed into a single line. This creates a sense of ambiguity and tension that Pereira wanted to focus on but expand it tho the timbral qualities produced by both instruments. For example, the violin harmonics amplify the natural vibraphone overtones, which sounds two octaves higher that the fundamental pitch.
