Great Beginning drum set method

This is the best beginning drumset method I have found, and I use it with most of my beginning drum set students. The basic coordinations are interspersed with play-alongs that use those coordinations a in a realistic way that is still attainable for the beginner. A lot of beginning methods have a number of easy exercises, then quickly get to advanced skills or exercises that overwhelm the beginner. Drum Sessions progresses slowly enough that, in my experience, students can meet with success almost every week. Combined with Drum Sessions 2, you have a 6 month to two year curriculum laid out for the beginning drum set player. Some of the play alongs are starting to sound dated, but the skills embodied are the same.

Steve Weiss was the only source I could find for this terrific book for new drummers, which had come highly recommended by my son's instructor. He loves practicing the exercises in the book. And having a CD to play along to makes it so much more fun!
