Rivera-Quartet for Metal and Wood (SP)-2V/2M

Quartet for Metal and Wood by Luis Rivera is written for two 4.5 octave marimbas and two vibraphones. The primary source of melodic development for this piece is rhythmic and metric displacement. The vibraphones provide the melodic voices throughout the entire work as they constantly shift their downbeat orientations, also playing in contrasting meters relative to the marimba accompaniment. Each new pattern that the vibraphones introduce creates a completely new set of contrapuntal relationships between themselves and also with the marimbas. Duration: 10'30".
