Kiefer-Rejoice (SP)-V/C/X/4M/4T/P

Rejoice by Ed Kiefer is a percussion ensemble piece written for 11 players. This fast, energetic work is based on the old Methodist Hymn, Rejoice the Lord Is King. In the first section, the melody is supported by rhythmic sequences and development, which gives way to a fugal section. The fugue builds to a climax as it approaches the third and final section, a traditional treatment of the hymn. In this final section, some of the fugal ideas and rhythmic sequences from the previous sections are intertwined with a restatement of the melody. Audiences will love this piece because they will recognize the melody and yet appreciate this new and exciting treatment.
