None of the pictures I have found do it justice, but the body is Not made of a thin material like a metal can. Instead, it appears to be wood with a drum head and a strap for your hand. As you've probably guessed, when you shake the drum, the long spring, which is attached to the drum head, makes the thunder-like sound. Because I wanted a thunder tube with a deeper sound, for songs like Riders on the Storm, I went with the larger diameter tube. When I unpacked it, the volume of the thunder was much louder than I expected, which is a good thing. Coupled with a rain stick, you've got your very own thunderstorm. If you're doing songs like Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, then you might want to grab a Remo Ocean Drum as well.
