This three-movement Sonata by Robert Marek is truly a tour-de-force for marimba quartet. Two mallets on all instruments throughout. You can hear a recording of Sonata on the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Percussion Ensemble's CD, "Sketches"
The Sonata for Marimba Quartet was written for the University of South Dakota Marimba Ensemble. The Sonata uses no special effects or techniques, but it does offer a challenge to the performers to achieve textural clarity and balance, accuracy, and control, expressive playing, and an ensemble unity.
