Description

ExitIX Novum is a percussion quintet with its genesis being in counterpoint
composed for an arrangement for Dajeong Choi's "Lift Up My Hands to You"
(KPP). Another influence is the percussion music of Bob Becker, in
particular, his incorporation of classical Indian musical concepts and his
invention of the 'prepared tenor drum', as an approximation of the aesthetic
of tabla for the snare drummer. The primary source of pitch material is the
octatonic or 'diminished' scale, where the chordal relationships of the
scale, specifically using traditional voice leading the way chorale music is
treated, to slide between major and minor triads, are explored.

ExitIX Novum received the second place award in the 2007 PAS 'Medium
Percussion Ensemble' competition contest.
