Giving Harry Breuer due credit

Of course, Saint-Saens never heard a samba. Harry Breuer recorded "Samba Macabre" (or sometimes called "Macabre Samba") in 1957 on his album "Mallet Magic" in a version for marimba, drum set, maracas, tambourine and electric organ. I arranged this version of HARRY'S tune in 1988 for the Penn State Percussion Ensemble. I never could get across to the publisher that Harry should have been credited on the cover. Over the last thirty years it has been played all over the world in various forms and recorded a few times. I even heard a version of it performed by a high school drumline at PASIC - what would Saint-Saens have thought? If you play it, feel free to experiment with the instrumentation (it's a bit heavy). It also make a nice mallet ensemble if you really "burn" the tempo. And make sure to put HARRY'S name on the program!
