Transea is a mallet duet written for the advanced high-school or college level student. The piece is written in a minimalist style with an additive melodic structure. The interaction of the two parts combine to make all harmony and melody perceived by the listener. Although the piece is not overly technical, a high level of musicianship must be present or learned for a successful performance. Transea is hypnotic and soothing. A piece of music which seemingly suspends the listener in one moment of time while presenting a path for a more inward journey. Transea is a perfect piece for contrasting the more energetic and frantic works of any percussion recital or concert. Although scored for two marimbas, Transea may be performed on any two like sounding mallet instruments with experimentation in sound highly encouraged.
