Dior-Science Fiction (SP)-B/2V/C/Song Bells/2M/DS/P/ Electronics

Science Fiction by Rick Dior for percussion ensemble. Scored for 12 players, this piece is a tribute to all of the great science fiction and horror movies of the mid-20th century. It was conceived to be performed with an accompanying video montage of sci-fi clips.

Instrumentation:
Player 1 - glockenspiel, chimes, 2 caxixi, song bells (or glock one octave lower), field drum
Player 2 - xylophone, vibraphone, low ratchet, 3 opera gongs
Player 3 - vibraphone (with mallets and bow), small gong, low conga or concert tom
Player 4 - 4-octave marimba, vibratone, vibraslap, small bass drum or large tom
Player 5 - 5-octave marimba, medium gong
Player 6 - timpani, flexatone, cowbell, cymbal, 4 pitched gongs
Player 7 - suspended cymbal, bongos, congas, 4 low metallics, high ratchet, doumbek, bell tree
Player 8 - bass drum, pod rattle, 2 metal pipes or brake drums, surdo, suspended cymbal, MPC2000 drum machine (or MPC mobile tablet app or other drum machine with playable surface)
Player 9 - drumset, wooden clacker, high waterphone (optional), ribbon crasher
Player 10 - large gong, marimba (shared with Player 4), 5 temple blocks, shakers or small caxixi, tuiro, bell tree, brake drum, 4 suspended cymbals
Player 11 - 4 high metallics, 2 congas, darbuka or djembe, slapstick, 5 differently pitched cowbells
Player 12 - theremin (or theremin mobile app), synthesizer, sample player for triggering fx audio (or soundboard/sample player app)
