Sherwood-Tanz-SD

Tanz is a short snare drum solo I started while on tour in Vienna with The Cleveland Orchestra. Our music director, Franz Welser-Möst, was eliciting a certain kind of "swing" - in which the second beat comes a little early - from the piece we were performing. It was one of those moments that reminded me of the limitless variety of nuance and character that can bring a piece of music to life. Tanz was a way to let that idea bounce around a little in my head. My intention is for it to be played with a slight lilt and a nice light touch.
