Description
Shima by Alain Louviex for percussion sextet. This piece is entirely built upon the six Hindu rhythms from the Carngadeva book about "Shima" the Lion. They are: I. Shima vikrama (the strength of the lion), II. Shima lila (the game of the lion), III. Shima vikridita (the dance of the lion), IV. Shima nada (the roar of the lion), V. Shima nandana (the game of the lion cub), VI. Shima (the lion).
Instrumentation:
Percussion 1 - timpani, 2 suspended cymbals, Chinese cymbals, xylorimba, maracas
Percussion 2 - xylophone, 2 tam tams, 2 anvils, tambourine, 3 triangles, maracas
Percussion 3 - 2 suspended cymbals, 2 tam tams, 4 tom toms, 2 bass drums, 4 temple blocks, 4 bongos
Percussion 4 - 3 tom toms, 4 bongos, snare drum, 2 military drums, tarole, woodblock, string drum (lion's roar), castanets, glockenspiel, tubular bells
Percussion 5 - guiro, vibraphone, snare drum, sizzle cymbal, whip, rattle, sleigh bells
Percussion 6 - 16 Thai gongs, marimba, claves, colt (with blank ammunition)
