Hummingbird is an intermediate four-mallet solo for marimba by Portland artist Michael Charles Smith. It is propelled by a constant 6/8 rhythm that runs throughout the piece. It also features a slow, reflective section where the marimbist is required to play chords like a bouncing ball, repeating them with greater speed as they diminuendo. This piece helps fill the gap between beginning and advanced works in the solo marimba repertoire.
