Description

Gomer in the Desert was written by Julie Spencer in front of a large glass window, on a couple of sunny days, with light streaiming across the marimba bars, in the desert of southern California.

"I always hear a full orchestra arrangement in the lush chords. The title comes from the Bible, in the book written about the prophet Hosea and his wife Gomer, who is a metaphorical figure for the people who follow God. In the story God hoped the pople would become more grateful for all the good things given to them in their lives. Gomer must first go to the desert to free her mind, in order to see the beauty of God's love through simplicity. The story is a reminder to find more happiness in less tihngs. The bowed gong represents the impression of God's voice in the desert, calling us to see the miracles all around us." - Julie Spencer

For Solo Marimba (4.5 octave low F marimba or larger, 4 mallets) and Gong (bow, gong beater)
