Sound the Alarm! by Darrien Spicak is a medium-easy ensemble work for 8–9 players that introduces developing performers to the excitement of a large-scale percussion ensemble. Inspired by the fast tempos and driving rhythms of movie chase scenes, the piece delivers a cinematic experience while remaining approachable for younger ensembles. Written with accessibility in mind, the work uses instruments commonly found in most school programs. Its combination of exciting rhythmic material and cinematic character keeps it active and engaging throughout, and helps players develop rhythmic precision, ensemble awareness, and dynamic control.
