Space by Larry Spivack is a three movement suite for an interesting instrumental and vocal ensemble that begins with spacey effects, moves to more defined melodic interplay, then ends with the audience participating along with a Van de Graaff generator (if available)

  • Instrumentation:
    • Player 1: Soprano voice (also plays suspended glockenspiel bars)
    • Player 2: Electric violin (with echo effect)
    • Player 3: 2 Timpani, tam-tam, marble drum (bass drum filled w/ marbles)
    • Player 4: Vibraphone, crotales (Bb, B, Eb, F, F#), bass drum, piatti cymbal (mounted on bass drum), sizzle cymbal, bongo
      • Clackers for audience

This piece is very unique in it's own way. The overall writing is great and amazing for what it is. I also love the overall use of Percussion involved in the piece, along with the Audience Participation with the Clickers at the end of the piece. Very unique & interesting!
