Description
Teppa by George Tantchev was written for Ed Harrison and premiered by him and the Wichita State Percussion ensemble directed by Jerry Scholl on April 21, 2008. Among the rhythms included in this piece are 3:2 son clave, marching drum idioms and a few Bulgarian asymmetrical rhythms such as Rachenitza 2+2+3, Macedonian Horo 3+3+2, Daichovo Horo 2+2+2+3, Gankino Horo 2+2+3+2+2 and Iztursi Kalzi in 25/8. Teppa is named for the virtuosic Venezuelan Maraquero Maximo Briceno Teppa who was Ed's maraca teacher in Venezuela.
