Burritt-Blue Flame Quintet (SP)-Solo M/B/2V/Cro./P

The Blue Flame Quintet by Michael Burritt for solo marimba and percussion quartet. This piece was written for the Lassiter High School Percussion Ensemble in 2005. The quintet is scored for solo marimba (5 octave), and four accompanying multiple percussionists. "In the process of writing Blue Flame, I was inspired by the thought of performing with these wonderfully young and enthusiastic musicians. I couldn't help but remember my early days as a drummer and my first rock band, "The Blue Flame." We named the band after the rocket car that broke the land speed record in 1970. (I must admit that I still have fantasies of being a rock star). So this is my chance, the marimba's my guitar, and these guys are my band!" - Michael Burritt

Player 1 - Solo 5-Octave Marimba

Player 2 - Glockenspiel, Small Bass Drum, Slap Stick, Vibraslap, Crotales, Ankle Bells

Player 3 - Vibraphone, Ribbon Crasher, Timbales, Sizzle Cymbal, China Cymbal, Brake Drum, Ankle Bells

Player 4 - Vibraphone, Bongos, 2 Congas, Caxixi, Djembe, Chinese Opera Gong, Finger Cymbals, Wind Gong or Small Tam Tam, Bamboo Clackers

Player 5 - 4 Toms, Cajon, Bell Tree, 16" and 18" Suspended Cymbals
