Steinohrt-Three Notions-M

Three Notions by William Steinohrt is a three movement solo scored for 4.3 octave marimba. The first and last movements require only two mallets but the second movement requires four. The first movement is mostly a two mallet chorale. The second movement works on the interval of a third in each hand throughout. The final movement is rhythmically very exciting, switching between 2/4 and 5/8. This piece contains many opportunities to work on striking two mallets simultaneously. This solo is a useful vehicle for teaching early players to transition from two mallet playing to four mallet playing.
