Description
This piece was the final composition of the Brevard College Percussion Ensembles' program entitled “A Night in the Mountains”. Anyone who has lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains has dealt with a particular power company and the struggles of having one's power go out and waiting, sometimes for days, for power to be restored. In the valley where I live, nights without power are so dark that any light at all shines as brightly as the sun. Storms produce sounds of wind and thunder that bounce around the valley randomly and wildly. Though the idea for the piece came from my experience living in the Blue Ridge, the name of this work was suggested by my students as I was finishing the piece.
