Hayakawa-Toccata for Marimba-M

Toccata fur Marimba by Masaaki Hayakawa is a four mallet solo scored for 4.3 octave marimba. Fast passages and one hand rolls require a specific level of comfort with four mallet technique.

Masa-Aki Hayakawa was born in 1934 in Tokyo. He studied conducting at the Tokyo University of the Arts with Professor Akeo Watanabe. After these studies, Hayakawa had his debut as composer and conductor with various radio stations, among them NHK and TBS. In 1961, he founded the Vivaldi Ensemble of Tokyo and hase since been its permanent conductor. He is also a professor at the State University of Hiroshima.
