Description
Toccata No. II by Harald F. Mommsen is a four mallet solo scored for 4.3 octave marimba. The inspiration for this piece was drawn from Tcherepnin's "interpoint" theory, the combining of melodic lines in such a way as to avoid coincidental attacks. In this toccata, thythmic groupings of three notes played by one hand are interlaced with groupings of 4 or 5 noted played by the other hands. Mommsen's Toccata No. II was inspired by Bartok's Bulgarian rhythm dances.
