Mizelle-Transmutations and Metamorphoses (S)-Cro./M/BM/ tuned brake drs./tuned metal rods/P OS

Transmutations and Metamorphoses by Dary John Mizelle for percussion ensemble. These two works were composed independently and designed to be performed successively with an overlapping segment when both are heard simultaneously. The physical setup of this piece reflects the sonic nature of the musical materials (vertical metals and horizontal woods). This piece may be played with as few as 13 or as many as 22 percussionists.

25 crotales, 54 aluminum rods in equally-tempered quarter tones, 27 aluminum rods clamped at center node and stroked with rosined gloves, 20 brake drums, 3 suspended cymbals, tam tam, 6 plywood head drums, 7 Chinese temple blocks, 3 Japanese woodblocks (boku sho), 4 African log drums, 5 slot drums or tongue drums, 7 woodblocks, 3 ratchets, 4.5-octave marimba, 5-octave marimba, lion's roar
