Description
Zarabanda by Joseph Turrin is an exciting percussion solo written originally for Evelyn Glennie. Zarabanda is scored for solo xylophone & marimba with optional instruments inlcuding timbales, bongos, conga drum, and tom-toms with wind ensemble accompaniment. This edition contains a piano reduction of the accompaniment.
Zarabanda is in a Latin style that occassionally is interrupted by accented outburts from the accompaniment. The soloist alternates between xylophone, for the more accented staccato passages and scales, and the marimba, for the more melodic material. The "zarabanda" is a late 16th and 17th century Spanish dance in a lively alternating 6/8 and 3/4 time.
