Description
Understanding by Michael Udow for percussion ensemble. Scored for six unspecified instruments, eight parade drummers, conductor, and tape. A cry for peace and understanding from a decade of turmoil, this dramatic work for percussion ensemble illuminates the anger and frustration felt during the antiwar riots of 1969-70. Six costumed drummers march onto the stage where they assume the roles of multi-percussion soloists. Later they return from the grave to mock the commercial world. This graphically notated piece is a large theatrical undertaking complete with costumes, light cues, and hydraulic lifts.
