Description

This user-friendly edition of Verdi's Rigoletto contains the percussion/timpani score as well as the separate parts. This great edition was created by Theresa Dimond and has been tested by the percussion section of the Los Angeles Opera. Born out of necessity, Dimond has constructed a time-saving score that intended to be the "performer's edition". By standardizing notation and location of parts, this score combines several different versions of the original score. Since the original version of the opera contained very few rehearsal numbers, the Los Angeles Opera librarian opted to augment the rehearsal numbers by numbering each scene, as well. Every bar and partial bar is counted as if it were a full bar. large rehearsal numbers are boxed and appear above the staff. The numbers correspond to the Kalmus edition and Dover score (the editions used by the Los Angeles Opera).

Measure numbers are problematic

I have purchased at least 5 scores by T. Dimond. They have worked well in the past, however the score for Rigoletto does not work so well with measure numbers. I am doing a professional production right now, and the score part, doesn't work with conductors score regarding measure numbers, In fact the measure numbers do not agree even between her score part and her percussion part. You will be able to make the parts work and it's easy enough to figure it out, but when conductor is calling off measure numbers and it's not lining up, it's a problem. The time saved by using her part in this piece was negated by the frustration of not knowing where you are once the orchestra is stopped and you are not starting from the beginning! Mostly the problems occurred in Act 1, #1 and #2. We also found issues in Act 3, #13 and #14.
