Excellent sticks. The Taj Mahal tip is great too. Great balance, weight and just a great all around stick. Give them a try!
When a standard-length stick doesn't give you enough reach or authority behind the kit, the Vic Firth American Classic 1A Drumstick is the answer. One of the longest sticks in the American Classic lineup, the 1A is built for players who demand extra leverage without sacrificing speed or finesse.
The defining feature of the 1A is its distinctive Taj Mahal-shaped wood tip — a broad, multi-faceted design that draws a rich variety of sounds from cymbals, offering everything from warm washes to crisp, cutting articulation depending on your angle of attack. Paired with a medium taper, the stick delivers an excellent balance of flex and rebound, making it a natural choice for drummers who play powerfully but still need responsiveness in the hands.
Turned from select American Hickory, the 1A carries Vic Firth's full commitment to straight grain, consistent moisture content, and matched pitch pairing — so every pair plays exactly as you'd expect, every time. The lacquer finish protects the wood and provides a smooth, consistent feel in the hand through long sets and heavy use.
The 1A is a go-to for drummers who find a 5A or 5B slightly short, or anyone who wants more stick out front for extra leverage and projection. Its extra length and responsive medium taper make it well suited for rock, band, pit work, and any setting where power and reach matter.

Vic Firth 1A sticks rolled true on the flat level surface I checked them. The sticks we use are a personal choice and what we practice with should be the choice for live and studio work. Give these sticks a try out for a lite "pay attention" type feel, they will fly. Their voice on the practice pad is lite but still true to hickory.
