The Vic Firth John Mapes Signature Drum Stick has a balanced diameter and length. A fast taper that levels off right before it gets to the tip increases articulation and makes this stick perfect for lower pitched tuning schemes.

I've never really liked Vic Firth's marching sticks too much, but these were really enjoyable. They have nice weight and width to them but still give a similar feel to innovative percussion's FS-PR's which happen to be one of my favorite sticks. They did a great job designing these sticks.
This stick is now my personal favorite. It has a very bright pitch while still being dark and powerful at all levels. The rebound is amazing and reminds me of a beefier version of the Hardimon's but with much more durability, a greater feel and better sound. I will most definitely being buying more of these sticks sometime and I'm glad to see that this stick really rivals some of IP's great sticks.
