I really like the sound and feel of this model . I enjoy the slightly thicker rattan handles

The serious disadvantage is that the yarn is extremely undurable. If you play, say, for a 3 months quite a lot the yarn will be actually destroyed. If you have a lot of money to buy new sets all the time then it's OK.
Had a set of original Gary Burton vibe mallets in college. They were made with blue cord and had just a great feel on the instrument. These mallets are a bit softer (probably because they are yarn wound). They are ok but not exactly like the old ones, but then, what is?
This is my first set of these mallets. There're great when you want a soft attack with a big sound. Played piano, they have a beautiful sound quality. Forte, they can produce a big, full sound, but without a hard attack. I've started using them for my 4th ( low register) mallet on vibes. (I might be using Balter Blues for the other 3 mallets.). You can get a great big sound in the low register without any "clunk". Great for solo or small ensemble work.
I had to return these, sorry. I tested these side-by-side with my original Good Vibes Gary Burton model, and it is not even close. If you're looking to replace the GV's, they do not match. That said, they feel well-made and sturdy.
