This stick is fantastic in its design and balance. However, the Promark version of Omar Hakim's signature stick was made of Shira Kashi Oak. That was the best of all worlds. Vic Firth has many qualities. Apparently access to Shira Kashi stock isn't one of them. I cannot say "Arigato" to Omar for switching manufacturing allegiance. I should have stockpiled more when I had the chance.

My Dad put sticks in my hands in 1954 at the age of 5. I've been playing ever since. From playing Dad's 1941 Gretsch/Gladstone snare (which I still have) to my current Yamaha Recording Custom kit, I have handled and broken a few sticks. Vic Firth's Omar Hakim's are my current favorites because of the balance/feel/lightness in the hand and brilliant and expressive cymbal sound. As with any sticks, if they fit your hand and suit your style. get 'em.
