I was very disappointed with how thin the chamois layer was. It more closely resembled parchment than chamois, providing little or no contrast to the sound with the wood end. The chamois lacked any texture. The wood is nicely turned and balanced, but I'll be adding a layer of leather or suede to the chamois ends very soon.

This mallet pair comes in as a reliable pair of rolling mallets for loud bangs and rolling thunder applications, they are however, a bit short in length, resulting in a less productive volume and general effect.

I purchased these mallets specifically for a symphony performance of Copland's, "Billy the Kid." After watching some of the Vic Firth Gauger YouTube videos, I thought that with some bass drum dampening and these mallets they would provide the low boom and attack needed to simulate the sounds of the "Gun Battle" segment. They did not disappoint. On a 36" concert bass drum, they had a solid attack and carried the hall without overpowering the other percussion instruments. The section was playing full out and it was a great moment in the concert. I hope to use them for "Rite of Spring," which Gauger originally created them for in a future performance.
