The Vic Firth Thom Hannum "Beast" Marching Snare Drumstick produces a huge sound without feeling cumbersome. It works great at all dynamics and it is very easy to control the stick. The higher shoulder increases the weight slightly and makes the stick more durable for rim shots. The special taper increases the response and flex in ways that have not been previously possible in existing short-tapered sticks.

Thom Hannum worked with Vic Firth to create the STH4 for use with the Carolina Crown's 2018 production of "Beast" at DCI.

Great well balanced and durable stick! I would give it a 5 if it were just heavier. I still get better control and dexterity with my Ahead M1CX because, I believe, of the heavier stick weight.

Now a "mature" citizens and a snare drummer of the 1960 Drum Corps years, I have continued to play/practice on a drum pad, of which I have a collection of designs. I also try all the latest sticks. The Thom Hannum Beast attracted my attention because it is being used by one of the top corps. I find it well made, balance and like the weight distribution.

These sticks are lighter than I expected them to be but they definitely are quite loud. They are very easy to control and seem to be pretty durable currently. The rebound is about average which I like
