The VKB3 beater is constructed of a medium felt core covered with fleece for an incredibly full and warm sound. These are outstanding for jazz.

The VKB3 beater is very well made as are all of Vic Firth products. I tried this beater and it just didn't work for me. Personally, it was just a bit too much fleece in my opinion. And, I thought the weight of the beater a bit to "top heavy". It did have a nice soft sound and was very good for feather the bass drum. But for more articulate strokes I found it cumbersome.
VicKick beaters are the best I've ever played, by far. The fleece one is the best one they have. Amazing round articulation and really full sound... just perfect. These fleece beaters aren't quite as light as they look on the drum; they can really draw out a big sound. Perfect for jazz and the like. Nothing else to say.
