Spencer-Wild Heron-M

Wild Heron by Julie Spencer is a four mallet solo scored for 4.5 octave (low F) marimba. Wild Heron has influences of rhythmic minimalism and jazz harmonies. It is to be played with a sense of intensity and drive, which alternates with feelings of calm and serenity. It was inspired by the composer's experience of riding the Shinkansen train between Tokyo and Nagoya. Spencer was struck by the contrast between the speed of the train and the serenity of the nature outside her window, with the abundance of water and wildlife.
