Four marimbas are place so that two players may face the audience and the other two stand with their backs against the audience. The consideration how to show the faces of the latter gave me the basic idea involved in this composition. To change players positions during the performance makes it possible. When I imagined the scene that four players were frequently moving around the instrument, it seems to me as if they were dancing around the square frame which the four marimbas formed. At the moment, the title "Square Dance" has just flashed, This work is also a piece of visual music.
