Wrapped in an environmentally friendly bamboo-blended cord, the Casey Cangelosi Series Marimba Mallets combines the rich, warm tonal characteristics of yarn with the articulate clarity of cord. These mallets are built on birch dowels with a natural finish and allow for a heavy bass sound without sounding muddy or washy, a delicate touch for lyrical legato passages that speak from the mallet immediately, and a steady timbre throughout the dynamic range. The two softest mallets are also available with a soft yarn wrap.
The CGL1 is a heavy mallet, producing a thick, articulate bass sound.

They sound great on the bass end of our 5-octave marimba, but we did have a stick snap in half near the end of our short season of indoor winter concert ensemble use. The younger player was probably hammering a bit at a climactic 16th note passage in a Bach fugue, but I would hope for a bit longer life from a $40 mallet set.
I love playing the low register on marimba with these mallets! They are a little top-heavy, but that is to be expected. Great tone, great warmth. Love, love, love!!
