Description

Constructed with uniquely weighted compact cores, the IP4000 series marimba mallets were designed to the specifications of Sandi Rennick, the Front Ensemble Arranger of the 9-time DCI World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard. Putting more weight in the players hands, these models produce a focused sound which speaks quickly, and was created with today's modern amplified keyboard section in mind.

Starting with durable birch handles in a matte finish, these implements are also wrapped with synthetic yarn which makes them able to withstand the needs of rigorous rehearsal and performance schedules. The versatility found in the Sandi Rennick series makes balancing and blending your ensemble easier than ever before.

Durability issues

At first I questioned the claim that these mallets "put more weight in the hands of the player" due to them feeling very front heavy when I got them. However after using them, I can say that the balance makes them very easy to play for fast and aggressive music in the upper 3 octaves of the instrument. The only reason why I am giving them three stars is their durability. The pair I bought only lasted about 7 hours of practicing. One mallet developed a flat spot, and the other one had a hole form all the way through the wrap and latex. The mallets were only used on my practice instrument, a synthetic bar Adams marimba. In fairness, I have never heard of anyone else having a blowout happen this fast, so I can only assume the mallets developed brittleness in the latex from being shipped in sub-zero temperatures last week, causing the core to break through faster than it otherwise would. Or, I could've just had the misfortune of getting a bad batch. Pic: https://instagram.com/p/z-yTsySz_C/?modal=true Aside from the durability, I loved these mallets. I'll definitely try ordering another pair, and will follow up.

I have owned several pairs of various marimba mallets from Vic Firth to Marimba One and the Sandi Rennick's are by far the best mallets I have used for far. They are great in solo playing as well as ensemble playing. I have used them for solo pieces such as Rhythm Song and in ensembles consisting of many members and have never wanted a different mallet. I recommended these mallets to anyone who is looking to purchase them.

These mallets are light weight. Have a great sound on the Marimba in the middle to upper ranges. Sound good in the entire dynamic range of any player. I use them in my college studies and find them to be my favorite mallets I use against marimba one, vic firth and pro mark mallets. I suggest these mallets for any player in no my ensemble. I will be buying these mallets for my groups any chance I get.
