Great Mallets - Finish?

I've been a fan of the She-e Wu series since I first tried them a few years ago. They are nice and light, while still giving enough sense of weight to feel in control. They are slightly softer than I expected medium mallets to be, but the next hardness is unfortunately out of stock, so I wasn't able to see how this progresses well. My biggest issue is that the shaft is entirely unfinished. I definitely wasn't expecting a laquer-like finish, a la IP240, but playing with these mallets for any extended period of time caused significant skin dryness and irritation. As someone who started in WGI and then transitioned concert percussion, it's concerning to see skin problems from relatively short periods of practice. I'm assuming it's a manufacturer's defect, as the CL-1 sticks i purchased are also strangely plain in their finish or lack thereof, but they don't cause the same problems after prolonged use.
