These do sound very close to Portnoy's stacks, but his sound better due to the way they are recorded and processing. Without a band these sound awful, and individually the cymbals also sound pretty bad. In a recording they sound great though. If you are buying them just to play and don't plan on using them for recordings or live, you will probably be disappointed, but if you do a lot of recording and want his sound, they'll do the job. Although, Sabian really needs to drop the price.
