Description

This 4.0 octave configuration of Pearl's malletSTATION EM Pro ships with the EMSC sound card included, so it makes sound on its own without needing a computer or other external sound source.

What's in This Package

This configuration includes the EMC 2.0 octave controller, the EMSC sound card (pre-installed), two EMX 1.0 octave expansion modules, and an AC power adapter. Assembled, that's a continuous 4.0 octave playing surface with onboard sounds, powered and ready to perform.

Modular Now, Expandable Later

The EM Pro system builds from locking modules over an internal aluminum frame, and each EMX expansion module carries its own dedicated onboard processor, so the extended octaves track with the same speed and precision as the core unit. With the 4.0 octave configuration, you also have the option of using the controller as a 2.0 or 3.0 octave setup by removing one or both of the EMX modules, which is useful for travel or in spaces where you need a smaller footprint. Should you decide that you need to extend to the full 5.0 octave range, you could easily add a third EMX module to your setup later on.

Playing Feel

The bars use Smart Fabric Technology from Muse Kinetics (KMI), running on the EMC's 32-bit multi-processor, a significant jump in speed, bar precision, and dynamic range over the original EM1. The surface responds to real mallet technique, including dead strokes, bar dampening, and muting, so vibraphone-style mallet dampening and marimba articulation both translate.

Standalone Sounds and Control

With the EMSC sound card installed, the EM Pro runs its internal sound engine on a Quad-Core ARM 64-bit 2.0GHz processor. Connect to an amp, PA, or headphones and play, with no laptop required at the gig. When a session calls for software instruments instead, the EM Pro still operates as a full MIDI controller over USB or 5-pin MIDI. The full-color multi-line screen, programmable backlit touch-sensitive buttons, and control sliders keep sound changes and performance adjustments at the instrument.

Where 4.0 Octaves Makes Sense

Four octaves comfortably covers vibraphone, xylophone, and glockenspiel parts with range to spare, along with a substantial share of marimba writing. That makes this configuration a strong fit for pit and theater books, worship and cover gigs where one player covers the whole mallet family, school programs that need serious range without the full 5.0 footprint, and writers who want a mallet controller that doesn't take over the studio.
